TO ENCOUNTER THE WORD (3): ENGAGE THE MYSTERY OF A QUIET TIME

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
II Corinthians 13:14 (KJV)

Whenever I think of the term “Quiet Time” the Greek word “koinonia” comes to mind. Koinonia is the Greek word translated communion in our opening text. Literally koinonia means participation. Personally or socially, koinonia means intercourse, that is the highest level of communication between two people. Quiet Time is a time of communion or intercourse with the Holy Spirit, the Word and the Father all in the name of Yahushua HaMashiach. Your calling in HaMashiach, beloved, is a calling into the koinonia of the God-kind. I Corinthians 1:9 says, ‘God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.’ The quiet-time is a specific time in which we seek the face of the Lord, to know his friendship personally and to worship and understand him better. Just like the term implies, Quiet-time is a time and place of quietness, where you can maintain some level of tranquillity to concentrate on the Presence of the Lord and on the communion of this God-kind. Quiet time, also called heart-to-heart time, or one-on-one time with the Father, is a regular individual session of Christian spiritual activities, such as prayer, private meditation, contemplation, worship, or study of the Bible. Quiet-time is the time of you coming to yourself both spirit, soul and body and consciously reaching out for the Person, Presence and Word of the Lord. That is the mystery of recovery of destiny as it happened to the man we have come to know as the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32. Luke 15:17 says, “And when he came to himself, he said,” that is his destiny could not be recovered until he sat down in probably a quiet-time session.

TO ENCOUNTER THE WORD (2): MEDITATE

TO ENCOUNTER THE WORD (2): MEDITATE

Meditate upon these things? give thyself wholly to them? that thy profiting may appear to all.
I Timothy 4:15 (KJV)

To meditate means to mutter; to speak to yourself in a low tone over a subject for over a period of time. Reading the Word is likened to eating food. The Word is spiritual food for the spirit-man. But what you eat doesn’t profit your body until it is digested and assimilated. Meditation is spiritual digestion and assimilation of the Word into your spirit-man. Joshua 1:8 says, ‘This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.’ Reading the Word is putting it into your mouth but beloved, don’t stop there, go further to speak that Word to yourself. To meditate actually means to murmur. Murmuring is a negative word because it is dwelling on the things that are not working in your life. But the process of murmuring is the same with meditation, the only difference is on what you are dwelling on in the process. When you are dwelling on the Word, murmuring it to yourself, it is called scriptural meditation. Meditation is not a gift, it is the result of the overflow of the Word in your spirit-man. Most times, meditation is involuntary. Other times, you must be intentional on what you are meditating upon. But I want you to see that when you flood your mind intensely with the Word, meditation becomes involuntary. At all times, your mind is on the Word. This is the level and dimension I desire you come into.

TO ENCOUNTER THE WORD (1): READ AND LISTEN TO THE WORD

TO ENCOUNTER THE WORD (1): READ AND LISTEN TO THE WORD

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
II Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

Beginning from today, we are going to examine how we can encounter the Word. With all we have seen the Word can do for us, unless we connect with the Word, we cannot enjoy the benefits. So how can we experience the Word and have the Word impart and metamorphose us? As we begin to unfold how we can do this, believe Yahweh to be a doer and not a hearer only. Decide to do and plan to do. Set Word objectives of what you must be covering in the light of what we are going to be showing you in a couple of days to come. It is He that does the Word that is blessed in his/her life (see James 1:22-25). The first way we encounter the Word is to hear it. Romans 10:17 says, ‘So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.’ Hearing the Word is by reading and listening. When you read, you are engaging your eyes and ears at the same time. This is important because what you see, makes impressions on your mind. The ear and the eyes are major channels into your mind and consequently your spirit-man. Consider this instruction from the Lord through Moses in Deuteronomy 11:19, ‘And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.’ This is saying let the ear channel of your children be saturated with the Word practically all the time.

HOW DOES THE WORD BUILD UP (9): BY IMPARTING WISDOM

For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 2:6 (KJV)

It is practically impossible to function in this kingdom outside the Word of Yahweh. This is because all that makes for real life and godliness are the impartation of the Word. The Word builds us up by giving us Divine Wisdom. Proverbs 4:7 says, ‘Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.’ Wisdom the trait of utilizing knowledge and experience with common sense and insight. It is the ability to apply knowledge or experience or understanding or common sense and insight. It is the quality of being prudent and sensible. There are four kinds of Wisdom according James 3:15-18. The first kind of Wisdom is earthly or natural wisdom. It is the wisdom that we are born with as human being. Even though a child is just born, he/she does not put his/her mother’s breast in his/her nose and start sucking, earthly wisdom enables the child to put breast in his/her mouth and to suck. He/she does not need any lecture to get that done. Secondly, we have sensual wisdom. This is the wisdom acquired in the citadel of learning. It is also called intellectual wisdom. It comes through intellectual training and it enhances our social status. Thirdly, we have Devilish wisdom. This is the wisdom of diabolism and the occult. It is destructive in nature and it is used by magicians, witches, wizards and the occult. Then fourthly, we have the Wisdom from above. This is divine Wisdom and comes by interaction with the Word of Yahweh, the Bible.

HOW DOES THE WORD BUILD UP (8): BY PROVOKING EXPECTATION

HOW DOES THE WORD BUILD UP (8): BY PROVOKING EXPECTATION

Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
James 1:15 (KJV)

Our opening text looks like a negative scripture but please follow me. This scripture explains what happens with expectation. This scripture is talking about desire/lust. From verse 14 it started saying that every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own desire/lust and enticed. Then it said that lust/desire when it is conceived, brings forth sin. This is powerful. What you only need to do in this process was to conceive a desire. However, when that process of conception of desire or expectation is finished, it activates chain of reactions and processes that brings about a product. Expectation is defined as belief about (or mental picture of) the future. It is anticipating with confidence of fulfilment of something. The Word shows you the character of Yahweh, the provisions He has made for you, the outcomes of obeying Him and His provisions. All these knowledge deposit an expectation into you and when this expectation is conceived, it brings forth. Proverbs 23:18 says, “For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.” This is the winning ways of the Word. It has the ability to impart expectation that determines manifestation. You can never see manifestation beyond your expectation. It is expectation that sets the limits for divine manifestations in your life. And this is both in the positive and the negative side.

HOW DOES THE WORD BUILD UP (7): BY GIVING YOU PEACE

HOW DOES THE WORD BUILD UP (7): BY GIVING YOU PEACE

Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
Psalms 119:165 (KJV)

There are few things that are as valuable in life as peace. Peace is a stress-free state of security and calmness that comes when there’s no fighting or war, everything coexisting in perfect harmony and freedom. Peace is a state where there is no war or fighting within or without you. It is coming to a place of perfect rest and tranquillity in your spirit-man. So many people are at war within. They have the good things of life and live in good places and environment yet there is war within, no peace. The worst case of existence is lack of peace existence. That is the reason for suicide. The worst part of it is that there is nothing physical that can give or guarantee you peace within. Peace within comes first from surrendering your heart to the Lord Yahushua, reconciling with the Father through the Lord Yahushua. Then that state of peace is established by taking your seat in the Word. When you are in the Word, no devil can offend you, nothing can upset your heart. The world may be in turmoil; your environment may be on fire but within there is absolute peace and tranquillity. Peace is a state of living without a guilty conscience. Peace is a state of living without your heart skipping at the thoughts of things.

HOW DOES THE WORD BUILD UP (6): BY TEACHING US THE FEAR OF YAHWEH

HOW DOES THE WORD BUILD UP (6): BY TEACHING US THE FEAR OF YAHWEH

Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
Psalms 34:11 (KJV)

The Word teaches us the fear of the Lord. Is it not a wonderful thing that the fear of the Lord can be learnt. That means no one is disadvantaged in life. Just anyone can learn the fear of the Lord and function in the realms of power and glory in their relationship with Yahweh. The Fear of the Lord is reverence for the Lord. It is having a sense of awe for the person, presence and emotions of the Lord. It is living your life in such a way and with the sole priority to please the Lord and bring glory to His holy name. Our relationship with the Father starts with surrendering to the Lordship of Yahushua HaMashiach. John 14:6 says, ‘Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.’ If you have not accepted the Lord Yahushua as Lord and Personal Saviour, then you do not have a relationship with the Father because the scriptures cannot be broken. At the fall of Adam, humanity came short of the glory of Father. It is only in Yahushua that we are reconciled, restored and empowered to fellowship with the Father. Another need to be saved is that at the fall of Adam, humanity acquired the nature of Satan. But at salvation, you become a new creation with the nature of righteousness of the Lord Yahushua. It is this nature of righteousness that makes it possible to be and live holy lives as a new creation. Holiness is the basis of a valid relationship with the Father (see II Timothty 2.19). Having become a new creation in HaMashiach, you must conform your soul and body to this new man in HaMashiach by doing the Word. It is the fear of the Lord that brings about doing the Word.

HOW DOES THE WORD BUILD UP (5): BY IMPARTING THE SPIRIT OF FAITH

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17 [KJV]

The Word does not only inform us, it transforms us. It transforms us by imparting the Spirit of Yahweh to us or put another way, the faith of Yahweh. John 6:63 says that the Word is spirit and life. The problem we have is running from the Word. If you can just make the Word your best friend and be diligent to read, study, and meditate, the Word would impart you effortlessly with the faith required to see the Word come to pass in your life. The Word builds us up by imparting us with the spirit of faith. The spirit of faith is the force that compels obedience to the Word of Yahweh. The truth is that it is not just the knowledge of the Word that transforms, it is the response of faith to the Word that transforms. Until you respond to the Word in faith, it would just be like a story to you. But what we are saying today is that faith is not what you scratch your head to get. Faith is automatic with the Word entering your spirit-man. Faith comes by hearing and understanding the Word. Your task is to dedicate yourself to the Word. Know all that we have already discussed about the Word being eternal and infallible. Believe that the Word is Yahweh speaking to you today. Then respond as if the Word is true and see what happens. Faith is not a struggle. Anybody residing on the lane and even the room of the Word will come under the force called faith and that effortlessly.

HOW DOES THE WORD BUILD UP (4): BY IMPARTING AN EXCELLENT SPIRIT

HOW DOES THE WORD BUILD UP (4): BY IMPARTING AN EXCELLENT SPIRIT

Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
Daniel 6:3 (KJV)

Excellence is a talent or quality which is unusually good and so surpasses ordinary standards. Excellence is above par performance or outcome. It is a performance that wows everyone and evokes feelings of awe and admiration. The Word builds us up by imparting excellence into our spirit-man. As you interact with the Word on daily basis, there is a metamorphosis going on in your spirit-man. Our Father is an excellent God and all He does is excellent. There is no single mistake or error in Yahweh. Relating with Him in His Word turns you into that image of excellence. That was the story of Daniel. He was an addict of the Word (see Daniel 9:2). The Word was his meditation even in a strange land. What did the Word make of him? Daniel became a man that exuded excellence like no man’s business. Daniel was in power in the reign of four kings in Babylon. At a time, the king preferred Daniel above all other presidents and princes. That is not to say that this Daniel was a captive and a stranger in the land. He was not the son of the soil as we would say in this part of the world. But excellence has a way of breaking protocols. There is no racial discrimination where excellence is at work. Whenever excellence shows up favouritism dies.
