HOW DOES THE WORD BUILD UP (2): BY IMPARTING HATRED FOR SIN

Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity? therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
Hebrews 1:9 (KJV)

By the time we are done with this series, you will come to appreciate why it is practically impossible to live a successful Christian life outside the Word. Sin is one thing that separates humanity from Yahweh. Sin is not an old concept. Whatever the world has become today in terms of evil is a function of the introduction of sin by man. People ask “if there is Yahweh, why is there so much evil in the world?” Sin is the answer. Wherever sin is present, no good thing will ever be present there. Whenever you see sin, there must of necessity be the absence of Yahweh. This is a very serious matter. Yahweh loves humanity but hates sin. Yahweh does not condone sin. Sin is the straw that breaks the camel’s back with Yahweh. No matter how close you are to Him, once you start meddling with sin, your time has expired with Him. You have overstayed your welcome, we would say humanly speaking. You are quickly like a leper escorted out of the court like what happened to king Uzziah of Judah in II Chronicles 26:16-23. Beloved, you must understand today that sin is not your friend on all counts. The Lord hates sin. When you stay in the Word in reading, studying and meditation, there is an impartation for you of the same order of hatred for sin that the Lord has.

HOW DOES THE WORD BUILD UP (1): BY IMPARTING A MINDSET

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:2 (KJV)

We are going to examine how the Word accomplishes the task of building us up. This is important because your inheritance is not in view until you are built up. You only qualify to enter into your inheritance in HaMashiach as you come to full development. The Word builds us up by imparting a mindset to us. When you gave your life to HaMashiach, it was your spirit-man that was born again. Your spirit-man was recreated according to the image of the Son of Yahweh, at new birth. Your soul was not saved then, your body was not saved also. The saving of the soul is a gradual process and involves the active partnership between the believer, the Word and the Holy Spirit. The soul comprises of the mind, the will and the emotions. You must educate your mind/intellect by the Word. You must also confirm your will to the Word and bring your emotions under the influence of the Word and all these is not a day’s job. It is a gradual process.

OBSTACLES TO ACCESSING THE WORD (5): HALF-HEARTED SUBMISSION

And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart.
II Chronicles 25:2 (KJV)

Half-heartedness is a state of feeling or showing little interest or enthusiasm. This is a state where you are not excited by the Word and that shows in not having enthusiasm for it. Remember that we had said earlier that it takes staying long in the Word to encounter the deep things of the Word that makes you come into the dimension of the Word that delivers to you your inheritance. But where there is lack of enthusiasm, there is not going to be that energy to stay long in the Word. A half-hearted submission to the Word is not going to be able to access the Word because of lack of interest. Yahweh does not force a relationship with us. Relationship with Him is a function of whosoever is interested. Psalms 122:1 says, ‘I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.’ It is your interest that drives you to seeking to know the Lord. What is the problem with the half-hearted submission? It is its lack of interest in the Word of the Lord. The drive to know the Lord and His Word is not existing in the half-hearted person. Any encouragement you seem to be giving to the person appears as if you are dragging him/her against his/her will. All we are trying to show today is that this kind of half-hearted submission is a hindrance to accessing the Word and when you can’t access the Word, it can’t build you up and as long as you are not built up, you cannot be entrusted with your inheritance. For “1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all? 2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.” (Galatians 4:1-2).

OBSTACLES TO ACCESSING THE WORD (4): EVIL HEART OF UNBELIEF

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
Hebrews 3:12 (KJV)

Unbelief can hinder your access to the Word. Unbelief is an evil heart. Every release from the Lord is on the basis that you believe. If you believe no evidence is needed; if you don’t believe no evidence is sufficient. Unbelief places you where there is no other evidence that can satisfy your curiosity. Unbelief makes Yahweh a liar before you. That is why it’s evil. Unbelief is a great sin, it vitiates the heart of man. If faith is the only basis and link to connect with Yahweh, then you are eternally disconnected from the life of Yahweh in unbelief. The Word will become to you the words of a tail that has no relationship with reality. Evil heart of unbelief leads you to depart from the living Elohim and His Word. This kind of unbelief that hinder us from the Word is not the kind of unbelief that we see in Psalms 14:1, ‘The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.’ This kind of unbelief do believe that there is God but that is all there is to his faith. This evil heart of unbelief does not take Yahweh at His Word. The evidence of faith in the Word is action. When you do not act in line with the Word, no matter what you are saying, you do not believe. In time, your evil heart of unbelief will cause you to depart from the living God.

OBSTACLES TO ACCESSING THE WORD (3): THE THORNY HEART

And some fell among thorns? and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
Matthew 13:7 (KJV)

Some seeds fell among thorns (which are a good guard to the corn when they are in the barn, but a bad inmate when they are in the field). ‘And the thorns sprung up,’ which intimates that they did not appear, or but little, when the corn was sown, but afterwards they proved choking to it, (vs. 7). The thorny heart went further than the former, the wayside heart and the stony heart, for it had root; and it represents the condition of those who do not quite cast off their profession, and yet come short of any saving benefit by it; the good they gain by the word, being insensibly overcome and overborne by the things of the world. Prosperity destroys the Word in the heart, as much as persecution does; and more dangerously, because more silently. The stones spoiled the root, the thorns spoil the fruit. Now what are these choking thorns?

OBSTACLES TO ACCESSING THE WORD (1): THE WAYSIDE SYNDROME

And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
Matthew 13:4 (KJV)

We shall start to examine the things that stop us from accessing, receiving and walking in the light of the Word. The Lord Yahushua told a parable in the book of Matthew chapter 13 of a sower that went to the field to sow seeds. In interpreting that parable to His disciples, we saw that the seed is the Word of Yahweh (see Luke 8:11). The field is the world. As you hear the Word of the Lord by reading, studying or listening, it is likened to a sower sowing the seed into your heart. Until the seed germinates, grows and bears fruit, it has not achieved the purpose of the sower. The fruits of the Spirit, the fruits of a changed life and the fruit of complete obedience to the Word is what we call the Word building you up and the result is that you enter into your inheritance in HaMashiach. But what is the cause why so many people miss the Word? Let us examine what the Lord Yahushua explained in Matthew 13:19, ‘When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.’ Some seeds fail by the wayside. The wayside is the heart that hears the Word but does not understand it. Let us understand that it is same Word that is being sown, the variance is the ground. So whose fault was it that this ground never understood the Word? It was the fault of the ground. These are the set of people that never heed the Word. They never pay attention to the Word. They never take a hold of it. In the first place, the wayside is not meant to be sown so existing on the wayside is planning ab initio to fail with the Word. They come before Yahweh as his people come, and sit before Him as his people sit; but it is merely for fashion-sake, to see and be seen; they mind not what is said. It comes in at one ear and goes out at the other, and makes no impression.

ATTRIBUTES OF THE WORD (4): THE WORD IS PROPHETIC

We have also a more sure word of prophecy? whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
II Peter 1:19 (KJV)

The Word of Yahweh is prophetic. This means that the Word foretells the events of the future. We have the glimpse of the end by the Word of the Lord. The Word of the Lord speaks to our future and to our moments. Until you are in the Word, you would not have idea of what the future looks like. Everything happening today is already prophesied in the Word. We know that the Word does not fail because what it foretold of old had come to pass, so what it foretell of the end shall come to pass. Anybody that refuses to take warning that the Word has already given has him/herself to blame. The Word shows you the picture of your future. When you come into terms with that, then you will begin to walk in paths preordained for you. Romans 8:29 says, ‘For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.’ Even your salvation is a function of divine foreknowledge. It is because you were marked for salvation that irrespective of your past wickedness, somehow, salvation found you and when you heard the Word, you believed.

ATTRIBUTES OF THE WORD (3): THE WORD IS SURGICAL

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)

When we say that the Word is surgical, we mean to say that the Word has the power to open up your spirit, soul and body and stitch, repair or replace whatever is missing, damaged, or failing. The Word can cut open your spirit, soul and body. That is exactly this surgical dimension that our opening text is speaking about. The Word of Yahweh is sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the dividing asunder of the soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The Word can cut your body open and remove cancer cell without physically cutting you open but when you go to the doctors or laboratory, they would confirm that you don’t have any cancer any more. Beloved, with the Word in your mouth you can cut off sickness, disease or infection from your body. The Word of Yahweh in your mouth in the name of the Lord Yahushua is a surgical knife that can cut off any pain harassing your life. As a Pastor, this is the way I deal with satanic affliction in the life of the people. I just lay hands on the person and I cut off the hold of that devil in the life of the person in the name of the Lord Yahushua and it is settled.

ATTRIBUTES OF THE WORD (2): THE WORD IS CURATIVE

For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
Proverbs 4:22 (KJV)

The Word of Yahweh produces cure. The Hebrew word translated health in our opening text is ‘marpe’ meaning a medicine, remedy or healing. From Proverbs 4:20 we see that it was Yahweh’s Word that brings about this medicine to all their flesh. When you find the Word, you have found medicine. The Word brings cure to anywhere it arrives. The Word is like the river in Ezekiel 47:9, “And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.” The Word became flesh and dwelt among us in the person of Yahushua. Yahushua HaMashiach is also known as our Great Physician and the means through which He brings His cure is through His Word. Whatever he spoke to received life. Finding the Word and applying it to yourself is a guarantee for cure because its medicine does not fail. This Great Physician through the Word has preventive medicine. These are set of instructions from the Word that if adhered to, would cause you to walk in divine health all the days of your life. Preventive medicine is how the Lord keeps your body from getting sick in the first place. In preventive medicine, the Lord Yahushua exposes you to the knowledge that will help you maintain your body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Most people are sick today not because of the devil but because of ignorance of what to eat and not to eat. To some the cream they are applying in their body has the capacity to cause them cancer tomorrow. Cases of diabetes is almost, apart from where it is hereditary, a function of what you put into your mouth in terms of food and drinks. Hosea 4:6 says that my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. As a new creation in HaMashiach, Satan has no power and authority over your health but ignorance can undo you. So avail yourself of the information the Great Physician by the Holy Spirit living in you is exposing you to.

ATTRIBUTES OF THE WORD (1): THE WORD IS CREATIVE

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.Hebrews 11:3 (KJV)

In Genesis 1:3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 17, 20, we saw Yahweh speaking the Word and the result is the world that we see today. Yahweh’s Word is creative. Whatever He calls forth comes into being. John 1:1-3 lets us know that “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him? and without him was not any thing made that was made.” By the creative force of the Word, the universe as we see it today was brought forth. All things were made by the Word and they are being sustained by the Word. Hebrews 1:3 (Amp) says ‘upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power.’ The mighty Word of His power that created all things is the same Word that is upholding, maintaining, guiding and propelling the universe day in day out. The Word of Yahweh is more powerful than a nuclear reactor. There is no nuclear reactor that can propel the universe for over 13.8 billion years now. The creative Word of Yahweh perfectly and excellently placed everything in such a position that it has never needed an adjustment from the very time the Word spoke them into existence.
