VICTORY FOR THE BACKSLIDER
The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. Proverbs 14:14 (KJV)
The Hebrew word translated backslider is “cuwg”. It means to flinch, to go back, to draw back, to turn back or away. In our context, a backslider is one who had decided and committed to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour but who for one thing or the other has turned back from following Jesus. Backsliding is a spiritual condition in which in our modern society and arrangement may not even be evident to others. It is a spiritual condition where fellowship with the Holy Spirit has ceased to exist and one is practically living in sin, literally returning to their vomit, doing the things one had repented off before and all that can be happening while the person is still in church, in service units and department, or even preaching. If not attended to, it will come to the point where the fellow will not be able to flow again in the fellowship of brethren no matter how hard they pretend which will cause them to leave fellowship. Don’t toil with sin because sin will destroy your spiritual life. Sin will cut you off from the fellowship of the God-kind. Sin is a spiritual cancer that if not handled on time will result in eternal death. You wouldn’t let that happen to you, would you? There maybe someone reading this today that is already backslidden. There is hope for you if you desire to be restored. Without a valid desire, God cannot do anything with you. It is you that wandered away from God, so it will take your burning desire to be restored.
In Luke 15:11-32, we saw the story of the young man popularly referred as the prodigal son. What was it that helped his restoration back home? Luke 15:17 says, ‘And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!’ This is the first step towards restoration for the backslider. You must come to yourself. Sit down and think for a moment? Is this the life I want for myself? Am I heading to the right place (heaven) that I want to be? Am I better off now than when I was burning for the Lord? You must sit down and come to yourself. Haggai 1:5 says, ‘Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.’ You are living a life of immorality, consider this in Proverbs 6:32-33, ‘32. But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. 33. A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.’ Then ask yourself, do I want to destroy my own soul? Do I want my life to end in wounds and dishonour? Is reproach and shame what I desire in my life? If your answer is “no”, then why are you still there? Retrace your steps back to Jesus now.
There is no power that is strong enough to keep you in sin. Sinning is your choice! Jesus Christ has conquered all powers in all realms. In His name, and with your will, you can walk out on the devil. You can walk out on that addiction in the name of Christ Jesus and with a vow/oath to strengthen your will. All the demons in hell were watching the prodigal son carry his bag and started home and they were helpless. The will of man is stronger than the power of Satan. When you really say yes to something no power in hell can stop you. Rise up and return home to the Lord Jesus today. He is waiting for you to welcome you, to restore you, to help you recover all the losses you had incurred in the camp of the devil. Your victory is in your hands. Selah!
REMEMBER: No matter how far you have gone in sin, you can return today and be welcomed home.
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for your word to me today. I have made up my mind to return back to Jesus today and I confess my sins and accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. I receive the grace to stay in your Word and to do them in the name of Christ Jesus Amen!
PROPHETIC RELEASE: As you take steps in obedience to the Word, I decree that every resistance to your restoration is blasted by fire now in the name of Christ Jesus Amen!
