    FASTING EXAMPLES (6): APOSTLE PAUL’S FAST

    And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.
    Acts 9:9 (KJV)

    When I look at Apostle Paul, I am not marvelled as much at his usefulness in the hands of the Lord Yahushua because the way he entered the race was loaded. What I mean is this: from the very first day he encountered the Lord, he began a three-day dry fast. There are so many today that have been believers in Yahushua for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 years respectively that has not fasted for a three-day dry before. Apostle Paul’s introduction into HaMashiach (Christ) is with three days dry fast. There is something fasting does to your spirit-man. It establishes you in the Word of Adonai, firmly making it possible to believe the Word and dare anything. The daring nature of Paul was imparted to him on the altar of fasting. In his own words later, he said “in fastings often” (II Corinthians 11:27). Isaiah 58:8 says, “Then shall thy light break forth as the morning,” that is you will begin to swim in revelations and that was exactly the testimony of Apostle Paul. Because of the abundance of fastings, there were also abundance of revelations (II Corinthians 12:7), ‘And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.’

    If you are a business person, learn to take business decision only after you have spent enough time in fasting about the decision. From now, never make any decision especially those that will impact on your future and posterity without at least three days fast to involve Adonai and know what He is saying. Decisions on who to marry is very crucial and should be preceded with a fast. Decisions to invest money. Decisions on where to build or rent. Decisions that will impact on your peace of mind should be passed through some fasting and prayer. Are you looking for admission, before you fill your JAMB form, pass that decision through fasting and prayer. Are you looking for a job, take sometime out to fast and pray that the Lord will locate you at the right place for you. These things are very important to fulfilling your destiny. Do you notice that fasting was involved in selecting Church leaders. In Acts 14:23, “And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.” Decisions that impact on the future and eternity are not supposed to be taken without fasting, not in your personal affairs, neither in business nor in the Church.

    Know the problem or challenge you want to tackle in the fast. Define your problem. If you cannot define it, you cannot find a solution to it. Gather information on the challenge. Take the matter up in your fast and be open to the direction of the Holy Spirit. Shalom!

    REMEMBER: You don’t take any decision that will impact your future and eternity without a fast.

    CONFESSION: I know what to do because the Holy Spirit is my extraordinary strategist. As I fast, He unveils the best decision to me, causing me to multiply my success and walk in joy unspeakable full of Glory. Thank You Father!

    PROPHETIC RELEASE: I decree that your eyes of understanding is enlightened as you fast in the name of Yahushua HaMashiach Amen!

    #WordForTodayDevotional Saturday January 16, 2021FASTING EXAMPLES (5): DAVID’S FASTMy knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness.Psalms 109:24 (KJV)The Bible didn’t tell us how long David’s fast was but for anyone that is acquainted with long fast, one will recognize that it would not have been anything less than 40 days for fatness to start failing from his flesh. When one finish even a partial fast of 40 days, your flesh will tell you that it has lost a lot in terms of fatness, let alone when the fast is a total or complete fast. David fasted so much that he became so lain that evoked mockery from people. Psalms 109: 23-25 says, ‘23 I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust. 24 My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness. 25 I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.’ I truly understand what David is saying here. The author believes that David’s fast was nothing less than 40 days long. It takes that long for the effects that he described to be so. The author is a witness to that.We have only known that David was a singer, worshipper and one after Adonai’s own heart. But how many of us know that the secret of David was probably in his life of fasting and not just fasting but fasting so long that he presses into power with God. No wonder, some Messianic prophecies came through him. Beloved, you have been singing and worshipping. That is so wonderful but Yahushua didn’t say that “this kind goes not out except by thanksgiving and worship”. He says “this kind goes not out but by fasting and prayer” (Matthew 17:21). This is very crucial because this year, Adonai wants you to touch the reality of answered prayer and some level of ease in life. How I wish, you can defy all odds and go on a long fast, long enough to receive from Elohim your desire. Most of use, we fast but before we are ready to make the connection with Adonai, we have already concluded the fast.The way the stories were recorded in the Bible gives some people the impression that some things happened in such a snap. I Samuel 5:19 says, ‘And David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.’ Is it not so sweet to be able to get answers from God in such a snap like this. However, you must recognize that this is a narration and that it may not have happened in such a snap. Seeing that David spent such a long time in fasting, gives us a clue that some of these records that seem as if the response from God was in such an instant, may not actually be so. Some of these responses were gotten from days of fasting and praying. Selah!REMEMBER: Real change happen when you fast for a long time.CONFESSION: I long to be with you dear Father. Your presence is so sweet I don’t want to leave. I thank Yahweh for strength to tarry in your presence in fasting and for the transformation you bring into my life thereby.     FASTING EXAMPLES (4): EZRA’S FAST

    Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.
    Ezra 8:21 (KJV)

    Have you been in a situation that because of your faith in Adonai and how much you have represented Him and His power you were faced with a situation where the power of that your God must be seen or you are put to shame. This was actually the situation that Ezra found himself. Adonai gave Ezra favour before Artaxerxes the king of Babylon and the king was sending him to Judea. In the presence of the king, Ezra had boasted of the might of Adonai to keep those that trust Him, and because of that, he couldn’t ask the king for security escorts. So, they were left to themselves and the wolves on the way to Judea and except Adonai intervenes it would be impossible to reach Judea alive with all the nations along the way and their hatred for the Jews. What was Ezra’s response to this dilemma? He proclaimed a fast. It is not clear how many days Ezra’s fast lasted. Ezra’s fast is another example of group fast that yielded massive results. This fast has also validated what Yahushua said that “this kind” answers to only fasting and prayer.

    We are seeing different situations that have confronted people and how they have responded in fasting to secure interventions from on high. Principles are best communicated through examples. The principle of fasting has been validated through numerous examples of scriptures of real threatening situations that secured divine intervention. Your case is not any different. You too can secure divine intervention this season. You don’t need to cry and let the enemy see your tears. There is a weapon at your disposal and that is fasting. Push the plates aside for once. Sincerely, 40 days in 365 days of the year is not too much to secure an intervention and end the looming shame. You can intensify your prayers with a fast and the Lord is calling you today to come up hither where you can take delivery of whatever is your issue. We have heard testimonies of people with diverse sicknesses that entered into fast and before they came out, that sickness was dead and they walked free.

    Ezra’s testimony was that of divine protection and preservation and it was secured through fasting. Beloved, thus says the Lord to you “come up hither”. Would you come? Would you declare a fast to facilitate the performance that you desire? The ball is in your court. Seeing we are living in the very tail end of the last days, what other way can we be prepared for the return of the Lord than to wait on Him in a fast? Remember that it is to those that look for him that He would appear the second time to. Hebrews 9:28 says, ‘So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.’ Are you ready for the rapture?

    REMEMBER: Adonai is waiting to manifest His Almightiness to you.

    PRAYER: Sweet Heavenly Father, thank You for Your word to me today. I ask for the grace to defy the flesh and take a long fast in the name of Yahushua HaMashiach Amen!

    PROPHETIC RELEASE: I declare that grace is released upon you today to fast for a long period in the name of Yahushua HaMashiach Amen!

    FASTING EXAMPLES (3): ESTHER’S FAST

    Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
    Esther 4:16 (KJV)

    Just as we have said that fasting according to our Lord Yahushua is to handle “this Kind” situations that comes up from time to time in our lives as we journey on earth. In Matthew 17:21, Yahushua says, “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” This was exactly the kind of situation that the Jews found themselves in the days of Queen Esther in the Kingdom of Ahasuerus in Shushan. A man by name Haman rose up and because of his ego that appears to be humbled by Mordecai’s behaviour decided not just to end Mordecai but to exterminate the Jewish race from off the face of the earth. It was the days of weeping, mourning and wailing for the Jews all over the kingdom of King Ahasuerus as the edit of Haman in the signatory of the king went forth. It was a dangerous mission that Queen Esther would have to embark on to secure the deliverance of her people the Jews. Then she requested that before “this kind” situation would be dared, three days of fasting and prayer be done to seek the face of Adonai. Three days of fasting of food and water. So many cites this example to embark on fasting without water. Remember that this fast was just for three days. You can go without water for three days, that won’t hurt or harm your body. But the truth is that fasting does not imply not drinking water. Fasting by definition is going without food in order to concentrate on spiritual things. That this folks didn’t drink water for three days does not impart on the seriousness of their fast. The fact is that whether you drink water or no, does not affect the intensity or otherwise of your fast.

    Fasting is the answer to “this kind” situation. If you have a situation that has defiled solutions. You have done all that you know to do, would you please consider, gathering a group of people to agree to take the matter to God in a three days fast? Esther’s fast was a group fast. There is power in united fast. This kind of group fast of three days without food and water was also replicated in Nineveh after Jonah cried against it. The whole kingdom of Nineveh was on lockdown in a three days fast. Jonah 3:7 says, ‘And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water’. Fasting in group with one purpose has proved to be effective over the years, I encourage you to organize one. Endeavour to join in your Church’s weekly fast and any scheduled fast.

    God did intervene in Esther’s days and the evil plot of Haman was destroyed and the Jews had joy. Beloved, fasting works, especially when it is done not as a religious duty but with earnestness as the Jews and Esther did in their days. It was a matter of life and death that there was no room for the shenanigans of religion. Selah!

    REMEMBER: Whenever you are confronted with what only God can do, declare a fast.

    CONFESSION: I do not run helter skelter in the race of life because I am connected to a Father that can change anything and give me laughter where evil people and Satan wants me to cry and moan. As I fast, I change “this kind” situations in my world. Glory to the Father!

    PROPHETIC RELEASE: You shall no more be overwhelmed with situations as you engage with God in fasting in the name of Yahushua HaMashiach Amen!

    FASTING EXAMPLES (2): DANIEL’S FAST

    2 In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. 3 I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.
    Daniel 10:2-3 (KJV)

    We are going to see several fasting examples in the Bible with the view of learning how fasting works and how to engage it. We are looking at Daniel’s fast today. The first thing about Daniel’s fast is that he purposed in his heart to walk in holiness. Until you are all out to walk in holiness taking advantage of the nature of righteousness you already possess in HaMashiach (Christ), you are not ready for fasting. You must decide to do away with any form of sin and unrighteousness before you make the decision to fast. With that decision, the fasting will help you permanent it by helping you mortify the flesh, setting your spirit free as it were to drive hard after Adonai. That was the starting point of the life of Daniel (Dan.1:8).

    Daniel’s fast is a partial fast in which meat, wine, and other rich foods are avoided in favour of vegetables and water for typically three weeks in order to be more sensitive to God. Daniel experimented this fast for 10 days in which afterwards “at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat” (Daniel 1.15). Then, after the experiment, Daniel was on this diet for three years of his education in Babylon. So in Daniel’s fast, you eat only vegetables and water for at least three weeks. It is important to know that Daniel’s fast is only an option when you are doing a major fast. A major fast is a fast of from 21 days to 40 days and upwards. Daniel was on that kind of diet for three years. No wonder at the end of their education, “in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.” (Daniel 1:20). This type of diet imparts on your mentality so much.

    Another major factor in Daniel’s fast is that it was a fast that was laced with prayers, minimum three sessions daily. It is a fast that you are highly “prayerised”. Because it is not a total fast, you have plenty of energy to pray. You cannot be doing Daniel’s fast and not be having a minimum of three prayer sessions daily. In fact, to have strength to go about your duties and pray is the reason that it is not a total fast. Daniel was working for the king and has to attend to his duties, so he had to eat something to have some energy to work. This is the reason it is not a total fast, so plan to pray at least three times daily all through your fasting season. As you focus, you shall come to visions and revelations of the Lord as was the case with Daniel. What a sweet communion.

    REMEMBER: Daniel’s fast is a fast where you take vegetables and water only for a minimum of 21 days.

    PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word to me today. I ask for the grace to be focused and disciplined to go through this kind of fast this year in the name of Yahushua HaMashiach Amen!

    PROPHETIC RELEASE: As you start this kind of fast, I decree it shall impart on your mentality and eternity in the name of Yahushua HaMashiach Amen!

    FASTING EXAMPLES (1): TOTAL FAST (YAHUSHUA’S FAST)

    And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
    Matthew 4:2 (KJV)

    We are going to see several fasting examples in the Bible with the view to learning how fasting works and how to engage it. It is important we understand that fasting is an expression of a yearning for Adonai and His pleasure. Fasting is not a means to get something from Adonai. Elohim answers prayer whether with fasting or not. What fasting does is to amplify your quest for the manifestation of Elohim both in your life and for His glory. Fasting boost faith because in fasting the flesh is mortified boosting your spirit to believe the Word of Adonai which results in the performance of the same. It is important to enter fasting with the right perspective. It is not to change Adonai or force him to do something against His Will. Fasting is essentially to mortify you and change you from inside out. So when you are not changed after the fast to be more humble, meek, easily forgiving and other spiritual qualities, you have not achieved anything. Another thought is, if your fast cannot change you, it cannot effect change for you.

    A total fast is a fast that you go without food but drink only water. This kind of fast will ensure that your body achieves the best form of detoxification that is possible. This is the best way to mortify the flesh. People that were finding it difficult to experience the baptism of the Holy Spirit were filled during total fast. It is important to note that if you have any health issues, you would need to check with your medical doctor to see if you can embark on total fast. It may not be the best for people with certain illnesses. It is advisable to begin your fasting adventure with a 24 hour total fast, when your body has mastered a 24 hour total fast, then do a three days total fast, do that for some time until your body has mastered a 3-day total fast. Then move on to seven days total fast, then to 14 days fasts, then to 21 days, then to 40 days and so on. It is better you train your body in this way than to just start a straight 40 days total fast.

    The length of time you should fast is not a matter of religion. You fast until you get a note of victory in your spirit that your prayer is heard. It may take you a day, three days, 21 days, 40 days or more. Until you are able to sort out all the “This Kind” that Yahushua spoke about. Total fast require so much sensitivity to your body during the fast. Don’t overs-spiritualize things. Walk in Wisdom. So many people have damaged their body by ignorance. Fasting by definition does not include drinking water. You fast food not water. For all total fast, you must be diligent to drink enough water daily to keep your body cleaned up. If you are new in this thing, please seek counsel.

    REMEMBER: Total or complete fast is one that you drink only water for ten days and upwards.

    PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word to me today. Please guide me into this kind of fasting in wisdom in the name of Yahushua HaMashiach Amen!

    PROPHETIC RELEASE: Grace is released upon you to start exercising yourself in total fast in the name of Yahushua HaMashiach Amen!
